Tosin monet veneilijät aloittavat veneilykauden jo keskikeväällä ja jatkavat sitä aina pitkälle syksyyn saakka, ja sinnikkäimmät uimarit aloittavat jo toukokuussa. Mutta suurimmalle osalle ihmisistä on uimiselle, sukeltamiselle, surffaukselle, vesipallolle yms. käytännössä paras harrastuskausi yleensä kesäkuun alusta aina elokuun loppupuolelle asti, riippuen tietysti kesän lämpötiloista. Monia vesiurheilulajeja voi kuitenkin harrastaa myös sisätiloissa, jolloin tilanne ajankohtien suhteen muuttuu täysin: käytännössä uintia ja monia muitakin lajeja voi uimahalleissa ja kylpylöissä harrastaa ympäri vuoden. Perinteinen uimahalli löytyy lähes jokaisesta kaupungista, mutta Suomessa on myös useita viihdeuimapaikkoja, joissa voit harrastaa vesilajeja ja vaikka lasketella vesiliukumäkeä. Eräs tällainen on Forssan Vesihelmi. Lisäksi Suomesta löytyy useita kylpylöitä, kuten esimerkiksi Ikaalisten ja Naantalin vesipuistot. Perinteisistä hiekkarannoista tunnetuimpia ovat Porin Yyteri ja Kalajoen hiekkasärkät. Nämä ovat mainioita paikkoja esimerkiksi surffaamisen harjoittelemiseen kesäaikana. Hyviä hiekkarantoja löytyy myös monista muistakin rannikkokaupungeista, kuten esim. Kotkasta, Helsingistä, Turusta, Raumalta ja Vaasasta. Pienempiä uimarantoja on myös jokien ja järvien rannoilla. Keski-Suomen ja Kainuun kirkasvetisissä järvissä voi puolestaan hankkia hienoja sukelluskokemuksia. Kesä on vesiharrastusten ja -urheilun kulta-aikaa, mutta muinakin vuoden aikoina voi nauttia vedestä erilaisten uimahallien ja kylpylöiden ansiosta.
